Birmingham City takes on the Great Run

The Birmingham City Foundation is calling for supporters to lace up their running shoes and represent Blues in this year’s Birmingham Great Run, to help fund its community engagement programmes.

The Foundation will be covering the entry cost for the 10km run on Sunday 5 May, as well as providing a limited-edition UNDEFEATED x Nike running vest* for the first 200 supporters who reach £150 in donations on the Foundation’s GoFundMe page.

Designed in Los Angeles and worn in Birmingham, the collaboration vests will not be available to anybody except Foundation Great Run participants, and will be distributed after the fundraising threshold has been met.

The route begins on Broad Street and winds around the Jewellery Quarter, detours past The Cube, The Mailbox and Grand Central before travelling through Southside and finishing at Smithfield, where the Foundation team will greet all Blues runners.

The recently relaunched Birmingham City Foundation has already delivered one of the city’s biggest-ever Christmas gifting campaigns, and has recently supplied more than 3,000 match tickets to underprivileged children.

Funds raised through the Great Run will go towards expanding the Foundation’s work to provide football for young people with limited access to sport.

Executive Vice-President of the Foundation, Jeremy Dale, said: “We have a fanbase of loyal, generous and talented supporters, and we need them to represent the Club at the Great Run. The funds they will raise will be integral in providing free football provisions to young people who might not be able to pay to play at their local club. We want football to be accessible to everyone.”

Chief Executive of The Great Run Company, Paul Foster, said: “We look forward to seeing the royal blue colours of Birmingham City fans taking on this year’s Great Birmingham Run 10k in their hundreds, raising vital funds for the Club’s Foundation, community sport, and to nurture the next generation of Blues superstars. We’re highlighting the Power of Running this year and we’re calling on Blues fans from across the Midlands to join us on Sunday 5 May, as they power across the Smithfield finish line with pride.”

*Sizes of the running vest are limited and supporters who reach £150 in donations the quickest will be given priority on sizes.
